Where to live in San Antonio
Today we're going to talk about where to live in San Antonio. We're going to discuss how to get around, some of the favorite neighborhoods that we get asked about all the time, and then those amenities and schools that are available in those areas.
Stay tuned and you can get a list of these neighborhoods and the homes that are available in them.
How to get around San Antonio
If you want to know where to live in San Antonio, then you need to know how to get around in San Antonio.
So let's start with the actual shape of the map. First, it is shaped quite like a wheel, so there are three circles, the inner circle called Loop 410, the middle circle, which is loop 1604, and then the outer most circle, which is 46. You'll notice that there are spokes that go out from the center of town. This one goes off to the right, which goes to New Braunfels and that's I35.
You also have one that goes north on 281, which heads towards Canyon Lake and goes straight into Austin. Then there's I10, which goes out towards Boerne. Then you have Highway 16 which goes out to Helotes and beyond.
There's also another spoke which goes down south, which is 37. It's an extension of 281 and this will go straight down to the Texas coast.
Favorite Neighborhoods
Alamo Heights
So we're going to talk a little bit about some of the favorite neighborhoods that we get asked about all the time in San Antonio. The first one is Alamo Heights. Alamo Heights is only about four and a half miles from downtown San Antonio. It is surrounded by major highways and the central location of Alamo Heights has always been luring home buyers for years.
The homes are easily accessible and close to major amenities such as the San Antonio Airport, museums, business centers, Fort Sam Houston. It was established in 1922. It is one of the older neighborhoods in San Antonio and the Alamo Heights school district. You'll find a lot of variety in Alamo Heights.
Stone Oak
Let's go a little bit further north on 281 and you'll notice Stone Oak. Stone Oak is a master planned, multi-use development in far north central San Antonio. It's primarily in zip code 78258. The district's known for its gated communities. The area has many large and small shopping centers that cater to the residents needs. Stone Oak is also home to the Canyon Springs Golf Club.
Cibolo Canyons
Over here to the right is Cibolo Canyons. Cibolo Canyons is also a master plan community and it's tucked in on the far north side of San Antonio. This sought after community is close to both Loop 1604 and 281 and it's convenient to the nearby village of Stone Oak Shopping Center, which is a vibrant shopping area that has many popular retailers, dining, and also entertainment venues including the Alamo Drafthouse Movie Theater. It's also nearby the JW Marriott Hotel and Spa and it features two great PGA golf courses and many, many restaurants.
Indian Springs
Just a little bit further north of that area is Indian Springs. I'm going to zoom in a little bit here. This is Indian Springs, which is a little bit closer to 281 and you'll find that this community is defined by three separate neighborhoods. The Preserve of Indian Springs, The Heights of Indian Springs and The Estates of Indian Springs. They each offer a different price point. The median home price and this area is $382K. The houses range between the mid two hundreds up to 600,000. This neighborhood is in the Comal School District and is also located in zip code 78261.
Timberwood Park
Going a little bit further north, you get a little bit more land with your properties. In Timberwood Park, you'll find that many of these homes are on a half acre or more, but it does remain a unique country setting with many custom homes and a lot of variety and style. There are very large oak trees, wildlife, many, many deer and so much more.
Timberwood Park does boast a 30 acre private park for property owner use and it includes a seven acre lake stocked with fish, with a catch and release program in place. There's also a six hole golf course for working on your short game.
Fair Oaks Ranch
Next, let's go to the other side of town off of 10 which is Fair Oaks Ranch. We'll move the map over a little bit so you can see a little bit better. Fair Oaks is in the Boerne ISD School district, which is very desirable school area. It's located in north northern Bexar County, just off I 10 and it's adjacent to Camp Bullis which is a military reservation. The city is approximately 22 miles north of San Antonio and seven miles southeast of Bernie and its limits also stretch into neighboring Comal and Kendall counties.
Helotes
Lastly, let's talk about Helotes. This is not necessarily a neighborhood, but it is an area of town that's very desirable and we get asked about quite a bit. The median list price here is 369 and the houses range from the low two hundreds to over two and a half million. You'll find traditional neighborhood homes here, as well as large ranch style homes as well. It is the becoming one of the most desirable suburbs of San Antonio. You'll find many small town shops in this community and it's also home to the Oak Valley Golf Course.
